The platform
Haraj is where Saudi Arabia buys and sells, and it is not a typical marketplace.
Haraj was founded in Riyadh in 2007 and remains the country's largest buy-and-sell platform — cars, real estate, electronics, furniture, livestock, equipment, personal items and services. Traffic dwarfs most alternatives, and browsing is largely by category, by city and by map, with buyers contacting sellers directly.
That changes what good selling looks like.
- There is no cart and no checkout. The buyer contacts you. Speed of reply is the single biggest lever you control.
- Recency matters. Fresh listings surface above stale ones, which rewards a regular publishing rhythm rather than a one-off upload.
- The first image decides everything. Buyers scan thumbnails and open maybe one in twenty.
- Sellers are rated and profiled. Profile age, ratings and activity are visible, so an established, well-presented store converts better than a new anonymous one.
- Buyers negotiate. Price is a conversation, and how you handle it is part of the operational work.
Haraj also spans new and used goods, which means your competition on a listing may be an individual selling one item, a professional dealer, or a retail shop — each with a different cost base.
Listing quality
What we get right on every listing.
Fit
When Haraj is the right platform, and when it is not.
| Situation | Haraj fit | Better alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Selling used equipment, vehicles, property or clearance stock | Strong — this is the platform's core and the audience is already there | — |
| Local service business wanting enquiries | Reasonable — listings and a store can generate calls | Google Business Profile and local SEO for sustained demand |
| Retail shops competing on new goods | Depends — possible, but you compete with individuals and dealers on price | Salla or Zid store plus Instagram and paid social |
| Branded consumer products with fixed pricing | Weak — the platform's negotiation culture works against fixed retail pricing | Amazon.sa, Noon or your own store |
| Selling in regulated categories | Restricted — animal and food categories carry rules that need checking first | Advise before listing |
| Volume e-commerce with inventory management | Unsuitable — there is no order management or fulfilment system | Salla, Zid, Amazon.sa or Noon |

Regulated categories
Some Haraj categories — livestock, animals, certain food items — carry health and municipal rules. Check requirements before listing, because platform posting and legal permission are two different things.
Questions
Haraj store FAQs.
Do I need a Commercial Registration to sell on Haraj?
Registration itself does not require one, and individuals post listings freely. But if you are running a business rather than clearing personal items, online commercial activity in Saudi Arabia generally expects a CR, and Maroof verification requires either a CR or a valid freelance document. We will advise on your situation rather than assume.
Is there a fee to sell?
Publishing listings is free. Haraj makes money from paid promotion and store subscriptions, which buy visibility rather than access. We will tell you which of your items are worth promoting and which are not — promoting a low-margin item to sell one unit usually loses money.
How do I get my listings seen?
Three things: the right category, accurate location, and recency. Beyond that, the quality of the title and the first photograph decide whether anyone opens the listing at all. Paid promotion helps, but promoting a poorly written listing simply pays to show a weak listing to more people.
Can you write the Arabic listings?
Yes — Arabic listings written the way Saudi buyers actually read them, leading with the specification rather than the sales pitch. Automated translations of English product descriptions read badly to this audience, and they show.
Do you handle customer replies?
We set up the response system, the Arabic templates and the triage process, and can run first-line responses if you want that handled. Where negotiation is involved, most sellers prefer to keep control — we can prepare the process and the language, and you handle the conversation.
Should I sell on Haraj or open a Salla store?
They solve different problems. Haraj gives you access to existing buyer traffic and suits used goods, equipment, vehicles, high-value single items and clearance. A Salla or Zid store gives you a branded shop with proper checkout, invoicing and repeat customers. Plenty of businesses run both — Haraj for reach and lead generation, the store for repeat business.
Can you list hundreds of products?
Yes, though Haraj is not built as a catalogue system, so large inventories need a structured approach with organised categories and a publishing schedule rather than a single bulk upload. For genuinely large ranges, a marketplace or a store platform is usually the better primary channel.
