Marketplace · Salla & Zid

A Saudi store platform, configured the way it should be.

Salla and Zid are built for this market — Arabic-first, Mada and STC Pay natively supported, ZATCA-aware invoicing. We help you choose between them and then configure the store properly: VAT, shipping zones, catalogue, pages and launch.

Why a Saudi platform

For most Saudi sellers, the local platforms are the right foundation.

Salla and Zid were built for this market rather than adapted to it. Both ship with Arabic-first interfaces, Saudi payment methods wired in, VAT and ZATCA-aware invoicing, and shipping integrations with the carriers that actually operate here.

That matters practically. A generic international platform can be configured to work in Saudi Arabia; these already work, which removes configuration risk and support friction at the exact points where new stores fail — payment, invoicing and delivery.

The two platforms have different strengths, and the right answer depends on your operation rather than on which one is 'better'.

What actually decides whether the store sells

  • Product content. Arabic titles and descriptions that match how people search, not translated catalogue text.
  • Trust signals. A Maroof badge, clear return policy, visible contact details and real photographs.
  • Shipping terms. Cost and delivery expectations are the most common reason a Saudi cart is abandoned.
  • Payment coverage. Mada is essential. STC Pay and Apple Pay materially increase completion rates.
  • Traffic. A store is not a marketplace. Nobody arrives unless you bring them, with SEO, paid social or existing customers.

Comparison

Salla or Zid — the practical differences.

Salla and Zid platform comparison
Consideration Salla Zid
Market presence in Saudi Arabia The larger installed base of the two, with a long-established local ecosystem and partner network Established and growing, with a strong following among merchants who want deeper reporting
Ease of getting started Guided setup, strong for a first store where speed matters Straightforward as well, with more configuration available from the outset
Design and theming Wide selection of Arabic-first templates with a mature app and add-on marketplace Clean Arabic templates with flexible customisation and good control over layout
Inventory and operations Solid for single-location retail and services Stronger multi-warehouse and inventory management, with a useful merchant mobile app
Analytics and reporting Adequate for most SMB needs Generally regarded as the stronger of the two for analytics and business intelligence
Payments Mada, STC Pay and card gateways through approved local providers Equivalent local payment coverage through approved providers
Invoicing and VAT Saudi VAT and e-invoicing requirements built in Saudi VAT and e-invoicing requirements built in
Best fit A business launching its first store and wanting speed with local support A business past the first hundred monthly orders that needs inventory and reporting depth

Both platforms change their plans and features regularly. We confirm the current position for your requirements rather than relying on a comparison written months ago — and we are not resellers of either, so our recommendation is not tied to a commission.

Configuration

What we configure for you.

An unconfigured store platform will accept orders it cannot fulfil correctly. This is the list we work through before launch.
Merchant profile, legal name and contact details as registered Mismatches with your CR cause problems with payments and verification
Saudi VAT settings and invoice layout Invoices should carry the details ZATCA expects of your business
Shipping zones and rates by region Flat national rates are often wrong — delivery cost varies by distance
Delivery carriers and pickup options Including any branch or locker options your customers expect
Payment methods: Mada, STC Pay, Apple Pay and cards Mada is non-negotiable; the others lift completion rates
Cash on delivery, if you offer it Common in Saudi Arabia and needs to be priced for, not given free
Product catalogue structure and categories Buyers navigate by category, so the structure is a commercial decision
Product titles, descriptions and images in Arabic and English Written for search behaviour, not copied from the supplier
Stock levels, variants and pricing rules Including any tiered or wholesale pricing
Return, exchange, privacy and shipping policies published Consumers expect them and Maroof requires a clear return policy
Order notifications by email, SMS and WhatsApp Saudi customers respond to WhatsApp notifications far better than email
Analytics and conversion tracking installed and verified So you can see where buyers drop out

Process

From platform choice to taking orders.

  1. 1

    Recommend

We review your products, order volume, shipping reality and reporting needs, then recommend Salla, Zid or an alternative — including when a marketplace account would serve you better first.

  2. 2

    Configure

Merchant setup, VAT, payments, shipping zones, catalogue structure and policies.

  3. 3

    Populate

Products loaded with Arabic and English content, images prepared to size and format, categories and variants set.

  4. 4

    Verify and launch

Maroof verification where applicable, test orders placed end to end, notifications checked, then launch and monitor the first real orders.

Inputs

Your shipping costs per region and any free-shipping threshold Shipping terms are the biggest cause of abandoned carts in Saudi Arabia
Your return and exchange policy Required content, and a trust factor customers check

Setting expectations on store platforms

These platforms are excellent at what they do. They are not magic, and the limits are worth naming.

  • Bring you customers. Traffic comes from SEO, advertising, social media or your existing audience.
  • Guarantee sales or a specific conversion rate.
  • Remove the need for Arabic product content written for Saudi buyers.
  • Solve logistics for you unless you use their fulfilment services.
  • Provide a unique design without configuration work — templates still need shaping to your brand.
  • Remove your responsibility for VAT, consumer protection rules or product legality.

What they do well: give you a reliable, Arabic-first, locally supported commercial platform so you spend your effort on products and customers rather than on infrastructure.

Questions

Salla and Zid FAQs.

Which is better, Salla or Zid?

Neither wins outright. Salla has the broader local ecosystem, a large template and app marketplace, and a reputation for getting a first store live quickly. Zid is generally stronger on inventory management, multi-warehouse operations and analytics, which matters once you are past the initial stage. If you are launching your first store with a simple range, Salla is often the smoother start. If you already manage real inventory across locations, Zid usually fits better. We are not a reseller of either, so the recommendation is not tied to a commission.

Do I need a Commercial Registration to open a Salla or Zid store?

Both platforms accommodate individuals and freelancers as well as registered businesses. That said, for online commercial activity in Saudi Arabia you should generally hold a CR, and Maroof verification requires either a CR or a valid freelance document. We will advise on your specific case, and we will tell you if sorting your registration first is the sensible order of operations.

What does Maroof have to do with my store?

Maroof is the Ministry of Commerce platform that verifies online stores, and its badge is something Saudi customers actively look for before buying from an unfamiliar shop. Registration is free, completed through Nafath or Absher, and it requires a clear return policy among other things. We include it in the store setup scope because a verified store converts better.

Can you connect Mada and STC Pay?

Yes. Both platforms support Saudi payment methods through approved local payment providers. You need your own merchant account with the provider — the account, the funds and the settlement stay in your name. We configure the integration and test it with a real transaction before launch.

How long does setup take?

The platform configuration itself is quick. The time is in the catalogue: Arabic and English product content, images prepared to specification, and shipping and VAT settings that match how you actually operate. A store with fifty products and complete content can be configured in a reasonable timeframe; a catalogue of five hundred products needs organising first.

Can you migrate my existing store from another platform?

Usually yes — products, categories, customers and order history can often be moved with an export and mapping exercise. The awkward parts are custom fields, apps and any manual workarounds in the old store, which do not always have an equivalent. We will assess it first and tell you what will and will not carry across.

Do you also handle marketing for the store?

Yes, as a separate scope. That typically means SEO for the store's product and category pages, paid social campaigns to drive traffic, and content for social channels. Launching a store without a traffic plan is the most common reason a good store underperforms.
